New Guns & Gear: April-May 2024

Following the tidal wave of new products that hit after SHOT Show, we figured you didn’t need help staying updated on the latest guns and gear. So, rather than publish slim reports every month, we decided to double up until temperatures and new launches heat up this Summer.

Without further ado, see what new guns and gear had us excited from April and May 2024.

Glock 17L Gen5 MOS

While not new to the Glock catalog, the G17L hasn’t been updated since Gen3 – until now. Upgraded with Gen5 features and an optics-ready slide, the new Glock 17L Gen5 MOS is built atop the standard G17 Gen5 frame with a 6.02” barrel and comically long 8.86” slide. Weighing nearly 35 oz. when loaded, the 17L is ideal for competition where added weight can reduce muzzle rise while offering an extra-long sight radius for enhanced accuracy at distance.

Radian G17 Gen5 AFTERBURNER + RAMJET

Speaking of the Glock 17 – Radian Weapons has finally answered the pleads of full-size pistol shooters with its new AFTERBURNER compensator and RAMJET barrel for the G17 Gen5, also compatible with the G47 and G49. Previously only available for G19 generations, the latest comp + barrel combo expands industry-leading recoil reduction and accuracy to larger 9mm Glock models with the same precision engineering and performance Radian is renowned for.

Magpul Enhanced Lever Gun Series

Lever guns have been all the rage in recent years and Magpul is getting in on the action (get it?) with its new ELG line of furniture for popular Marlin 1895, 1894 and 336 pattern models. The ELG Stock features an adjustable length-of-pull and comb height, internal ammo storage for six rounds of .45-70 Gov’t/.30-30 Win, covered M-LOK slots on the side, and dual QB sling mounts. The ELG Handguard (1895 only) has M-LOK slots one three sides and an integrated hand stop.

Bear Creek Arsenal Grizzly

Known for their affordable rifles and components, Bear Creek Arsenal is roaring into the handgun market with their first polymer pistol and aptly named BC-101 Grizzly. Essentially a Glock Gen3 clone, the full-size 9mm Grizzly is sports a high-angle grip with unique “bear fur” stippling, 416R Stainless Steel barrel with Bear Claw Flutes, and a slide with top and side lightning cuts, front and rear serrations, and RMR cut for direct mounting your favorite red dot.

Streamlight TLR-7 HL-X

If you wanted 1,000 lumens in a Streamlight pistol light, you previously had to settle for the TLR-1 HL. But at nearly 3.5” long, it was too long for compact handguns. However, Streamlight has now upgraded its popular TLR-7 weapon-mounted light with the launch of the TLR-7 HL-X. Also offering 1,000 lumens, it boasts 22,000 candela (2,000 more over the TLR-1 HL) in a 2.9” package. Max output comes from Streamlight’s SL-B9 USB rechargeable battery pack, though it also accepts standard CR123A batteries with some performance loss.

Smith & Wesson Model 327 WR

We’re a sucker for optics-ready revolvers – even when they ship with a competitor’s optic. To celebrate Jerry Miculek’s recent World Record, Smith & Wesson is releasing a custom 9mm Model 327 revolver that matches that used in Jerry’s record-setting 1.88-second run. The scandium N-Frame Performance Center revolver wears a titanium cylinder, gray laminated wood grips, barrel porting, and C.O.R.E optic mounting system. Some 1,880 WR commemorative revolvers will be produced, but there’s only one Jerry Miculek.

Magpul DAKA Accessories

As good as Magpul’s DAKA Grid Organizer system for hard rifle cases is at organizing firearms and large items, it lacked storage for smaller accessories and the tight-fit security of precise-cut foam. New DAKA Bins and Gear Straps resolve those issues, offering 2x2 and 2x4 clear top bins for storing ammo, cleaning supplies, and tools, and hook-and-loop tethers to tie-down firearms and other gear. DAKA Bins are available in three colors: black, FDE, and red.
