Bigger and Better: Liberty/Justice vs. Liberty II/Justice II

Foundational to American independence and the protection and preservation for which it stands, the Swampfox Liberty and Justice were aptly released together in 2020. Slimming the legacy Kingslayer design, the RMR footprint open reflex dot sights were nearly identical except for their physical dimensions and window sizes – 22mm and 27 respectively. With 3 MOA red or green dots, manual brightness adjustment, and Shake N’ Wake auto on/off, they were both ideal for large pistol frame carry and duty optics, as well as riflescope offsets.

After three years of consumer feedback and advances in optic technology and manufacturing, it was only natural for the dual dots to follow in the steps of Sentinel II with the release of their own second-generation models, Liberty II and Justice II.

Liberty/Justice vs. Liberty II/Justice II

Construction

Like Sentinel II, the new Liberty II and Justice II – or L2 and J2, as we call them – have been redesigned and refined from the ground up. Though still constructed from 7075-T6 aluminum for weight savings and durability, the Gen 2 dots sport a new, sleek body style. Both built on the same universal RMR mounting standard, L2 is roughly 0.10” larger in all dimensions than its predecessor, while J2 measures 0.33” longer, 0.10” wider, and 0.30” taller than the original Justice. These increases can be attributed to the notable larger objective windows and surrounding reinforced optic hoods.

Increased from 22mm to 27mm and 27mm to 30mm when measured corner to corner, Liberty II and Justice II lenses are roughly the same width as the Gen 1 optics, but taller. These bigger windows provide shooters with a larger field of view for quicker target acquisition and faster transitions between targets. To better protect the windows from drops, bumps, and surface racking, the lenses are recessed in thicker hoods. Side thickness was increased on the new models from 1mm to 3mm, with the top of the hood tapering from 3mm thick at the front to 4.5mm at the anti-glare serrated rear on both L2 and J2. These hoods were also extended out and elevated of the main body to accommodate the enlarged windows, creating slide overhangs of 2mm on Liberty II and 7.5mm on Justice II.

New to Swampfox Gen 2 optics, L2 and J2 wear a matte black finish with minimized branding, including blacked out and embossed logos to eliminate reflective surfaces. Lenses feature the same ruby/silver tinting (depending on illumination color) and specialty coatings for anti-scratch, anti-fog, and hydrophobic performance no matter the weather or environment. And the optics ship with one additional set of screws, for a total of four, to specifically mount to Glock 19 MOS handguns.

Features

One of the most-asked for features of our next-generation dot sights, Liberty II and Justice II are both available with a new 4-in-1 multi-reticle – currently offered in red illumination with green to be made available in the future. By simply pushing and holding the ‘Up’ brightness button for three seconds, users can switch between a single center dot, quartered open circle, directional crosshairs, or a combined reticle for shooter preference and precision (subtensions differ for each model). Of course, both are also available with only a single center dot like Gen 1, though Liberty II maintains a 3 MOA dot while Justice II was increased to 6 MOA.

Liberty II and Justice II continue to offer 10 manual brightness settings with improved brightness from a new and further recessed LED emitter. Brightness settings 1 and 2 are night vision-compatible, with 3 to 8 for low-light and indoor applications, and settings 9 and 10 for daylight bright settings. Up and down brightness buttons are now located on separate sides of the optic hood and have been made larger with audible clicks for greater control and tactile feedback. Windage and elevation dials are also tactile, with 1 MOA click adjustments you can feel and hear – unlike the non-responsible turrets of the original pair. Together, these adjustments make it easier to zero and adjust brightness on the dot sights.

Though physically larger in size than the RMSc footprint Sentinel II, L2 and J2 are powered by the smaller CR1632 battery. However, with an easy top load design, improved electronics, and Swampfox Shake N’ Wake auto on/off technology, gun owners can expect similar battery life up to 50,000 hours, or two years of practical use, compared to one year of Liberty and Justice.

Functionality

Both built on an RMR footprint, Liberty II and Justice II are inherently versatile red dots. The most popular mounting standard for full-size and compact double stack handguns, the RMR is also easily adapted to LPVO offset mounts, like our Hostile Engagement Mount and Rebel Offset, or low-profile Picatinny mounts for shotguns, or risers for AR-style rifles.

Though L2 and J2 can be used in the same applications, their slight size differences offer more distinct use cases. Narrower and shorter, Liberty II shines as a concealed carry or duty carry optic, while the larger Justice II was designed to compete for wins as a primary or offset, cross-platform competition dot. Justice II and its 30mm window is also currently one of the largest window pistol dot sights on the market, and the largest offered with a green dot and multi-reticle.

Like all of our pistol dot sights, pair Liberty II and Justice II with our Ironside Shield (coming soon), and carry, compete, and defend with the added assurance of a stainless steel helmet to protect against everyday use and abuse.
